18kt Gold filled - Maison Savard (1895-1910) - Victorian - France - Chain

Beautiful Albert watch chain, originating from Maison Savard, a renowned French goldsmith house founded in 1829 in Paris by François-Auguste Savard. The company grew in the 19th century into an absolute pioneer in high-quality, luxurious jewelry that could not be distinguished from solid gold. The 18kt fully-filled chain consists of splendid links with rich, floral engravings. This is not ordinary gold plating! Instead of a thin, fragile layer of gold (as with other gold plated items), Savard forged, under extreme heat and pressure, a thick armor of 18-karat gold over a base of copper or brass. Because the gold layer on Savard jewelry is exceptionally thick, these pieces—even after more than 100 years—rarely show wear. Maison Savard pieces are highly prized by antique jewelry collectors due to their extreme durability and historical value. They are often collected more actively than nameless solid gold chains from that era. equipped with the master hallmark “Savard - Double”. Extremely unique piece! Length without the Fob is 28.0 cm. Weight is 27.11 grams. After decades of careful collecting, I have decided to part with (part of) my collection. I wish these exceptional objects to find a home with a new admirer who understands the value of historical preservation. It is time for these pieces to receive the attention they deserve, so they can be preserved for the distant future as well. I ensure extremely careful packaging and insured shipping.
