1896-O Barber Dime. MS-66 (PCGS). CAC.

Richly Toned Gem 1896-O Dime Key Date Barber Issue Ex Duckor 1896-O Barber Dime. MS-66 (PCGS). CAC. This handsome piece sports richly original toning in a blend of steel-olive gray, golden-rose and powder blue, with the most vivid and varied colors evident when the surfaces rotate into direct lighting. Lustrous and satiny throughout, and sharply to fully struck at all design elements. Carefully preserved, as well, there is certainly much to recommend this impressive condition rarity to the advanced Barber dime enthusiast. The 1896-O is a popular semi-key date issue that saw a production run of just 610,000 pieces, the sixth lowest mintage figure for the design type. It is the third rarest New Orleans Mint Barber dime after the 1894-O and 1895-O, and is scarce even in lower Mint State grades. Gems are highly elusive, even in MS-65, and the present example is one of the finest available to discerning collectors of Barber coinage. Provenance: From Heritage sale of the Collection of Dr. Steven L. Duckor, January 2009 FUN Signature Auction, lot 982. PCGS Population: 5; 3 finer (all MS-66+). CAC Stickered Population: 6; 0. PCGS# 4810. NGC ID: 23DZ. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
