1885 Liberty Seated Quarter. MS-67+ (PCGS). CAC. CMQ.

Jaw-Dropping Mint State 1885 Quarter 1885 Liberty Seated Quarter. MS-67+ (PCGS). CAC. CMQ. This is without a doubt the finest, most visually impressive Mint State 1885 Liberty Seated quarter that your cataloger (JLA) can recall bringing to auction in a professional numismatic career spanning nearly three decades. Both sides are originally and beautifully toned with reddish-orange and powder blue peripheral colors that give way to softer antique gold and blue-gray shades toward the centers. Intensely lustrous in a satiny texture, the surfaces are virtually pristine and support boldly to sharply struck devices. The 1885 is part of a consecutive run of low mintage circulation strike quarters produced in the Philadelphia Mint from 1879 through 1890. Yet although only 13,600 coins were struck in this format, contemporary numismatic hoarding ensured that Mint State survivors are not major rarities in an absolute sense. On the other hand, an exceptionally well cared for Superb Gem such as this PCGS/CAC MS-67+ example is a formidable condition rarity, and more so than a similarly preserved and graded Proof Liberty Seated quarter from the 1880s. One of the absolute finest for the issue known to both PCGS and CAC, and eagerly awaiting inclusion in a world-class numismatic cabinet. PCGS Population: 4; 0 finer. CAC Stickered Population: 4; 0. The former total includes coins certified both MS-67 and MS-67+. PCGS# 5517. NGC ID: 23VH. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
