1872 Pattern Liberty Seated Dime. Judd-1193, Pollock-1333. Rarity-8.

The Finer of Only Two Confirmed Examples of Judd-1193 1872 Liberty Seated Dime in Copper 1872 Pattern Liberty Seated Dime. Judd-1193, Pollock-1333. Rarity-8. Copper. Reeded Edge. Proof-64 RB (PCGS). CAC. The obverse and reverse designs are the same that the Mint used in production of 1872 Liberty Seated dimes. Lightly toned in olive and rose-brown, both sides retain abundant mint orange color that shines forth powerfully as the surfaces rotate into direct lighting. There are expectably few blemishes at the Choice Proof grade level, both sides with a few small carbon spots that include a particularly useful one for provenance purposes on the obverse at the letter A in STATES. Sharply struck from dies that were rotated a few degrees counterclockwise from coin alignment. Not a regular die trials strike, per traditional numismatic wisdom, Judd-1193 is actually a deliberate numismatic strike to sell to contemporary collectors as part of off-metal Proof sets. Only two are known, per Saul Teichman's census research published at the uspatterns.com website, and that offered here is finer than the NASCA 11/77 coin, now in a PCGS Proof-63 BN holder.
