1859 Liberty Seated Dime. JD-1, Fortin-101. Rarity-3+. Proof-63 (PCGS). A richly toned example with dominant steel-blue patina and lighter, more iridescent highlights in and around the centers. The finish is somewhat subdued to help explain the Select-quality grade from PCGS, although the in-hand appearance is smooth. From a mintage of 800 coins for this early date Proof Liberty Seated dime, only about half of which survived the circumstances surrounding the first real upswing in numismatics as a hobby in the United States. Provenance: From the Property of a Park Avenue Collector. PCGS# 4748. NGC ID: 23CD. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
