1760 Voce Populi Halfpenny. Nelson-1, Zelinka 1-A, W-13820. Rarity-6.

1760 Voce Populi Halfpenny. Nelson-1, Zelinka 1-A, W-13820. Rarity-6. No P, Boyish Head. EF-40 (PCGS). A superior example of this distinctive variety, showing a youthful bust of much finer style than a typical entry in this series. Nice deep walnut and olive-brown patina overall, the left reverse with a hint of chestnut patina. The surfaces are microgranular with some old dirt build up in several of the protected areas, but both sides present as frosty and predominantly smooth during in-hand viewing. A few tiny planchet voids are present on the obverse, at the bottom of the effigy's bust, along the base of its jaw, and at the base of the letter U in POPULI, but detracting post-production marks are not seen. Nice bold EF detail overall with only light wear that is largely confined to the high points. With even the Ford V:4 coin in Very Fine described as a nice example of the Nelson-1 Voce Populi halfpenny, the Emerald Coast collector was right to recognize this PCGS EF-40 as a significant survivor from these dies. Provenance: From the Emerald Coast Collection. PCGS# 262. NGC ID: 2AUC. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
