1559 Zamora - Redención de censo al quitar Siglo XVI - 1559

Closed in Zamora on May 27, 1559, at the beginning of Philip II’s reign. It is an extensive civil file, whole and perfectly preserved, containing a deed of payment and redemption of a censual obligation of 560 maravedís, granted by Antonio de Ocampo (heir of Juan Lorenzo de Tábara) in favor of Gonzalo Brochero, thereby freeing the Hermillo site from that mortgage burden. The entire manuscript is drafted in a superb and elegant procedural hand traced by notary Francisco Ribar, visually standing out for the enormous and exceptional calderones in the form of interlaced spirals that decorate its margins. The document culminates on its last page with a gigantic and intricate notarial sign in pen that served as an official guarantee seal. Its condition is outstanding, keeping the rag paper firm and undamaged after more than 460 years, with the ink in a deep sepia tone and preserving its valuable original file cover that summarizes the case, which makes it a museum-quality piece with a huge visual appeal ideal for major collectors and investors in high-era documents.
