Tall Colima Pottery Flat Figure - Woman Holding a Dog

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE - 300 CE. What an adorable figure and the only example we have handled in the last 10 years of a Colima "flat" holding a dog. Large "flat" female wearing turban-styled headdress, arms to her sides, she wears a long skirt tied at the waist. In her left hand she holds what appear to be a young puppy. This sculpture clearly shows the tight connection this ancient culture had with their furry friends, just as we do today. Size: 3.875" W x 9.75" H x 1.5" D (9.8 cm W x 24.8 cm H x 3.8 cm D) Provenance: private Colorado, USA collection; ex collection of Y. Kayvan, Los Angeles, California, USA, 2025; ex-Barakat Gallery, Beverly Hills, California, USA, acquired between 1985 and 2003 Condition: Intact with liberal manganese blooms.
