This hand painted ceramic character jug, titled The Bulldog Rugby Player, was produced by Peggy Davies Ceramics for Kevin Francis. The piece features an anthropomorphic bulldog seated on a square block, dressed in a rugby kit consisting of a white jersey with a central orange stripe, an orange headband, black shorts, orange socks, and black rugby boots. The figure holds an oval rugby ball under his right arm, while a yellow corner flag positioned behind him serves as the handle for the jug. The white jersey is decorated with intentional dark pigment to simulate field mud. The figure is mounted on a base textured to resemble grass, which rests on a dark brown oval plinth. The underside of the base contains comprehensive printed marks in red and pink within a green geometric border. These markings identify the piece as The Bulldog Rugby Player, modeled by artist Andy Moss, and indicate it is number 78 of a limited edition of 350.
